For subscription and recurring billing

Recurring charges generate disputes long after the sale, from customers who forgot, could not find the cancel link, or did not recognise the descriptor on month seven.

Recurring billingDescriptor confusionInvoluntary churn
WHERE THE DISPUTES COME FROM
01
Forgotten renewals

The charge is legitimate and the customer disputes it anyway. No fraud model predicts this, because nothing about the order is unusual.

02
Unrecognised descriptor

A statement line that does not match the brand the customer signed up with turns a routine renewal into a dispute call.

03
Cancel friction

When cancelling is harder than calling the bank, customers call the bank. The dispute arrives instead of the churn.

How prevention fits a billing cycle

Refund the renewal, keep the record clean
An alert on a renewal charge is almost always a cancellation in disguise. Refund it inside the window and the chargeback never files.
Cancel the subscription with the refund
Rules can flag the customer for cancellation at the same time, so the next cycle does not repeat the dispute.
Match the alert to the right cycle
Order matching ties the alert to the specific renewal, not the original signup, so the amount and the plan on screen are the ones being disputed.
Fix what causes the rest
The descriptor checker shows what appears on the statement. Most recurring-billing disputes are cheaper to prevent at that layer than at any other.

Common questions

Not answered here? Ask us directly or read the full FAQ.

Why do subscriptions generate so many chargebacks?

Renewals are charged long after the sale, to customers who may have forgotten the signup, cannot find the cancel link, or do not recognise the descriptor on their statement.

Does a refund cover the whole subscription history?

No. Rules refund the disputed cycle by default, not every past charge.

Can the subscription be cancelled automatically?

Yes. A rule can flag the customer for cancellation at the same time as the refund, so the next cycle does not repeat the dispute.
