Reason code lookup

What the code on your dispute actually means, what evidence answers it, and whether prevention would have stopped it. Search by code or by what happened.

Reading your own mix

Which codes dominate tells you what to fix. Three patterns cover most Shopify stores.

Mostly 10.4 and 4837
Fraud-coded, card absent. Before assuming organised fraud, check your descriptor. A line customers cannot place produces these in volume, and they are the easiest category to prevent with alerts.
Mostly 13.1 and 4855
Not received. This is a fulfilment and expectation problem. Tighten shipping estimates, push tracking into the confirmation email, and refund the slow ones automatically before the customer calls.
Mostly 13.2 and 4853
Cancelled recurring. Renewal notices, a cancellation flow that is easy to find, and an automatic refund on the disputed renewal will move this faster than any evidence you can submit.
